April 25, 2025 Comfort The Sorrowful Part #15

We have covered five of the seven spiritual works of mercy:

  1. Counsel the doubtful
  2. Share knowledge
  3. Give corrections to those who need them
  4. Be patient with others
  5. Forgive those who hurt us.
  6. Comfort the sorrowful
  7. Pray for the living and the dead

Have we ever gone to coffee, had a bite to eat, or called to check on a friend’s health? If so, this is an act of comforting the sorrowful. Pam Sininek, in her talk about a Pilgrimage of Hope, said, “Comfort the sorrowful, we are called as loving people living in the light to listen and comfort those dealing with grief, and again, you do not need to have all the words. Sometimes it’s better to say nothing, just be present.”

The Virtual Peer Recovery Group on Thursday evenings https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/ is a place where comforting the sorrowful takes place. The group offers a human connection, something we all need. People participating in the group bring their joys and sorrows. Some of the sorrows include loss of a pet, divorce, medical condition, feeling sad, and feeling anxious. We come to the group to be fed. We also come to the group to feed others.

Pam said, “We were all created by love for love, and we need that love in our lives to comfort us.”

Suggested Action Step: Reach out to a person in your life who is going through something difficult right now. How did they respond to your kindness?
