April 7, 2025 “Seeking Hope!” Part #4

Saturday evening, my wife and I went to a fundraiser for the Red House of Hope. https://www.redhouseofhope.com/ I had a booth for the Green Bandana Project and sold several copies of my book. https://superhumanbeing.net/

Before arriving at the fundraiser, my wife and I attended our weekly mass celebration at the church where we were married. After a church service, we connected with a parishioner I was close to as a member of the church we were attending. We explained to him the mission of Red House of Hope to help support people in Recovery from mental health and substance misuse conditions. I noticed him dig for his wallet, pull out a $50 bill, hand it to me, and said, “We sure do need more services for these issues.

This brings us back to seeking hope in our lives. In that instant, it was not so much about the money. Instead, it was his way of professing and seeking hope in the world around him. His simple welcome to my wife and me was warming to our hearts. This was a simple act of kindness, and it declares hope for the world. What we do has a ripple effect and through our efforts brings hope into our world both big and small.

Can we come up with three acts of hope we have seen in the last 24 hours? If we are going to seek out hope, we need to notice it. I will start us off-

  1. My wife is supporting my dad by cleaning out dad’s home so we can list it with a realtor.
  2. The neighbors came to my dad’s house to visit with him and tell him how much he is missed (Dad went into assisted living about eight months ago).
  3. The nurse I see for a health issue is a member of the same faith, is married, and has two children ages two and four. He shared with me the hopes and challenges he as with his faith.

Now it is your turn – come up with three acts of hope you have seen in the last 24 hours. Email me how you are professing and seeking hope in your life over the past 24 hours. ljw@superhumanbeing.net/

Hope is contagious – think about hope and its practical application to our Recovery, which includes the twelve- steps. Hope is love, and we need this in our lives. Set aside time to reflect on how we can profess and seek hope in our lives. During our upcoming blogs, we will learn how to nourish hope in our lives.
