April 8, 2025 “Nourishing Hope” Part #5

We can bring three steps or degrees of hope into the world. These include “Professing Hope,” “Seeking Hope,” and “Sustaining or Nourishing Hope.” We have covered the first two, now we are ready to cover the third one, “Sustaining or Nourishing Hope.”

Sometimes, it is difficult to hold on to hope because life can get messy. We are called to nourish hope in our Recovery. If we keep hope in the forefront of our Recovery, it can impact our behavior, and we need to nourish hope. God (higher power) promises to always be with us; the promise of healing does not go away because it is real. Pam Sirinek says, “Sometimes feels like a distant constellation when we are really in despair and we want to do our part to nourish hope in our lives because we all know life (Recovery) can be hard”.

Sometimes, we are asked to carry our burdens because our prayers, meditation, or reflection are not answered in the way we want them to be. When Recovery gets hard in our lives, we can pick up our heads and find hope in our hardships. If we are going to nourish hope in our Recovery, it allows us to not let suffering suffocate us nor bring us bitterness.

The house built on a rock is solid. So how do we build our hope to be a solid foundation? Pam says, “Good news is when we seek hope and profess hope, it nourishes our hope naturally. Prayer (meditation and reflection) is a big part of this. To nourish hope, we need to pray and pray without ceasing.” We all pray, meditate, and reflect differently. We need to explore what this is for each one of us. It is different for each person.

I typically do my prayer time in the morning. I listen online to the readings for the day, which are followed by a two to five-minute reflection. I journal on the reflection, which often inspires me to write this blog. Throughout the day I may include an “Our Father” or just talk to God. My wife and I do couples prayer each evening consisting of our blessings for the day, our shortcomings, and then offer prayers of petition.

What is your prayer, meditation, or reflection for each day?
