April 1, 2025 “Pilgrimage In Hope”!

For the last three days, our parish has been sponsoring a mission, “Pilgrimage In Hope,” with Pam Sirinek. Her message aligns with the hope we discover in Recovery. Recovery gives us the gift of hope. Our undertaking is to open the gift and proclaim hope, seek hope, and be a sign of hope to all we encounter in Recovery.

Pam stated, “When we wake up and look at our phones, immediately we see all the bad stuff. When we see hope, it allows us to see life differently.”

What is the dictionary definition of hope? The feeling of wanting something to happen and thinking it could happen, a feeling that something good could happen or come true. Ordinary hope is how we speak most often. We speak the word a lot. ” I hope our daughters call to see how things are going”, “I hope my wife gets home safely from work,” or “I hope the Packers win the game”. Hope does not disappoint us.

Recovery hope falls within three virtues: 1. Faith 2. Hope 3. Love or Charity

Faith is believing in Recovery and all it has revealed to us. Charity (Love) is we love God (Higher Power) above all things and we love ourselves so that we know how to love others.

Hope is our desire and expectation from Recovery, both healing and the grace we need to live in hope. We do not rely on our strength but on Recovery’s strength to heal. Recovery put on our heart to be happy and hope leads us to true happiness.

Ordinary hope is a feeling or we wish for something to be true. Hope in Recovery is knowing, it is reality, it is concrete. Hope is a promise from God.

What is the promise? It is not wishful thinking. Hope is knowing we are not alone in our healing. Hope is knowing that Recovery loves us, and by actively engaging in Recovery, we can heal. Hope is knowing that Recovery is a realistic expectation, a reality. We can be assured that a life with hope will change us.

During the next couple of days, I will share more about hope based on Pam’s talks. She takes the nebuleus concept of hope and shows us how to be a sign of hope to everyone we encounter.
