March 19, 2025 “Listen to Our Hearts!”

Mary, a fictional name, discovered healing and Recovery in stages. In the beginning, she was reluctant to do the work necessary to relieve her depression, anxiety, and trauma. But something kept tugging at her heart to embrace Recovery’s power and share her findings with people.

Soon she discovered Recovery is possible and committed to overcoming the internal and external challenges, barriers, and obstacles confronting her. She began choosing activities that support her Recovery. One of her shortcomings was the level of anger she felt toward an abuser from childhood. She worked hard in therapy and support groups to extinguish the hold anger had on her heart. When she freely accepted this grace, a newfound freedom allowed her to make heartfelt connections with family and friends.

Recovery tells us something greater than ourselves is present. What does this mean to us? This program has many mysteries at the heart of our healing journey. In this program, self-giving love offers us the opportunity to become a new creation in our lives. Our ordinary and simple sacrifices of prayer, reflection, and mindfulness can become powerful moments of grace.

Mary reconciled the ambivalence she felt about healing and Recovery. Just as Mary returns each day to work her program we too can turn toward Recovery with our whole hearts, minds, and souls and find meaning and purpose for healing. The depth we dive into will produce a wave of unconditional love, compassion, and presence in ourselves.
