The spiritual presence of Recovery calls us to repentance and conversion and uses our hearts to heal. The support groups I participate in provide an opportunity to form a solid foundation because my brothers and sisters are nonjudgmental, show compassion, and extend mercy. Repentance and conversion are not something we do on our own but we are equipped by our peers to go into the world free of past harm we have done towards people.
It is only when we dare to put on the mind of Recovery that we make a radical change. We become part of the world when we begin to embrace this spiritual power in our lives. Conversion means a complete break in our lifestyle. There is a complete letting go.
A group of people were at a Peer Support Group meeting. A spiritual warrior entered the room and said, “Come follow me”. At once they left their seats to follow the spiritual guide. They placed their total trust in the warrior leaving the group behind which was the only means that they ever knew how to Recover. Not knowing where it would all lead they were called by the warrior to step out in faith. This is a rather drastic example to make a point!
We are called to exercise spiritual boldness. It is only when we fully live out our Recovery and accept with humility, the beauty and truth of its teachings in faith and morals, that we recognize the course of our own lived experience by taking action in loving faith.
We need to walk in the life of healing by uniting our joys with the joy of Recovery, our sorrows with the sorrows of Recovery, and allowing ourselves to be carried to wholeness on the brightness of our spiritual journey.
