My wife and I enjoy a regular prayer routine before laying our heads down for rest. We will celebrate our ninth wedding anniversary. I am unsure when we started our nightly prayers in our marriage.
The first thing we do is acknowledge any blessings that come our way during the day. These moments are special and at other times they are routine. We each tell one another three blessings from the day. For example, I am blessed to be part of an author’s group that meets virtually one day a week or I am blessed to have two Peer Support Groups – Depressed Anonymous this is also done virtually or our daughters come over for a visit to catch up on life.
The Recovery community encourages us to focus on our blessings or positive things that happen in our lives. Depression, anxiety, sadness, and trauma can overwhelm our present moment. When we intentionally set aside a few minutes each day to share our blessings with someone we may grow the habit of being kind and compassionate toward ourselves. It does not mean our feelings will disappear but it can balance our overall mood.
What are your three blessings for today?
Peace
Larry
