Due to Christmas and New Year’s falling on the next two Mondays, there will be no blog posts on those days.
A few times within the past week the topic of self-care has stimulated conversations with people in my support network. I am curious if it has anything to do with the events in our lives.
What does self-care look like? We make an intentional decision to slow down, find moments to enjoy pleasurable activities, set priorities realize we will never meet the needs of those in our family and community, be kind to ourselves/others, not allow people to treat us unkindly, and accept our feelings without struggling and obeying them.
Some questions to ask yourself when self-care is needed:
- Think about times we have experienced burnout or compassion fatigue due to prioritizing things other than ourselves.
- Think how we were able to get back on track. What helped?
- What did we do differently today to intentionally practice self-care?
There are six areas of self-care; physical, psychological, emotional, spiritual, relational, and professional/retirement.
During this Christmas season do activities that will keep your cups full. We cannot pour from an empty cup. I write this not only to remind you but also to keep myself on track during the hustle and bustle during this time of year.
From our family to yours we wish you a Merry Christmas. May the birth of our Lord give us a renewed sense to become the best version of ourselves.
Peace
Larry
