My book is broken down into four parts each representing the qualities of a truly remarkable person. Today’s reflection will focus on the first one, to BE BOLD, meaning it takes courage to step forward and say to ourselves I want to feel better. I covered this topic several months ago and I intend to share here another way to incorporate Boldness into our Recovery.
There are 3 types of courage:
1. Personal Courage – Relying on our Higher Power for strength. Where our strength ends, our Higher Power takes over.
2. Public Courage – Stand up and say we are committed to following the 12 steps of Recovery.
3. Interpersonal Courage – When we are at work, with our neighbors, friends, etc. we lovingly address difficult situations.
Patrick Lencioni, author, and speaker, says there are 3 reasons to have courage:
- We lose our fear.
- It serves others out of love.
- Jesus had it first.
The following concepts are taken from Lencioni but modified to fit the meaning of BEING BOLD:
- Those of us in Recovery are willing to go off script and take calculated risks.
- Those of us in Recovery are never alone. The presence of a Higher Power is always with us.
- Those of us in Recovery invest in our own Recovery.
- Those of us in Recovery always have someone pouring into us.
- Those of us in Recovery are accountable.
- Those of us in Recovery are willing to pour into others the wisdom we gain on our road to hope, healing, and health.
- Those of us in Recovery have the ability to change the world.
If you are stuck in the quicksand due to fear, anxiety, depression, and addiction what small step can you take today to BE BOLD and Recover? Improving just 1% a day over the course of a year reaps remarkable results.
Peace
Larry
