“Any day now people are going to realize I am not a good writer.” Thoughts of being a fraud or not worthy of success often occur in my mind. The problem is the anxiety, insecurity, and dread these beliefs cause me.
This thinking can cause real damage: anxiety, an inability to enjoy success, and I can’t go on as a Certified Peer Specialist. We all doubt ourselves sometimes. Here are some of the characteristics that prevent us from validating our self-worth.
- Self-doubt
- Undervaluing contributions
- Attributing success to external factors
- Sabotaging self-success
- Setting unrealistic expectations
- Continuous fear of not living up to expectations
- Burnout
Right now I am experiencing doubt about my ability to trust my instinct regards to medication management. I believe a slight increase will make a difference. My psychiatrist questions if any more therapeutic benefits can be attained. I began to think he is the expert therefore he knows best. However, I faced my self-doubt in order to honor the fact I am the expert on my care. I told him I want to try an increase to see how it goes. Graciously he listened to me and agreed to an increase.
Monday I will share with you some behavioral techniques we can use to combat thoughts of being a fraud and not worthy of having good things in our life happen.
Peace
Larry
