I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you.
When we accept Recovery as a gift of grace, we begin to see how it welcomes, loves, and heals us. We discover that we do not have to walk this journey alone. Many people in our lives are willing to support us along the way.
Recovery welcomes everyone. No one is left out of the healing offered through the 12 Steps. Yet, we are free to choose whether we want to begin this journey. Recovery does not force itself upon us. We have the freedom to say yes or no. When we turn away from healing, we may continue to carry pain and suffering.
When we choose Recovery, we open our hearts to love, peace, and community. Deep within each of us is a spiritual desire to belong, to be loved, and to find healing. Recovery invites us to listen to that desire and take a step toward a better life.
Recovery can touch and heal anyone who desires it and is willing to ask for help. We do not have to be perfect or have all the answers. We only need an open heart and a willingness to begin.
Think about this for a moment. Why is the love found in Recovery so unconditional?
Perhaps it is because true love gives us freedom. Recovery allows us to make our own choices, even when those choices bring suffering. Yet, the door to healing remains open. Recovery continues to invite us to forgive, love, heal, and welcome others, even when life is painful.
But how can Recovery ask us to forgive and love those who have hurt us?
Recovery teaches us that forgiveness is not about saying the harm was acceptable. It is about letting go of the heavy burden we have carried for so long. Forgiveness does not mean we must trust those who hurt us or allow them back into our lives. We can forgive while keeping healthy boundaries.
When we release anger, bitterness, and resentment, we make room for peace. We begin to heal our hearts. The spiritual teachings of the 12 Steps invite us to practice this kind of love, forgiveness, and compassion in our daily lives.
Let me offer a simple picture of what Recovery can look like.
Imagine holding a bicycle wheel in your hands. Notice the spokes, the rim, and the central hub. Each spoke represents one of us on our Recovery journey. The hub represents the healing love and unity we find in Recovery.
Each spoke connects to the same center. Together, the spokes support the wheel and help it turn. If one spoke becomes weak, the others help carry the load.
Our Recovery community works in much the same way.
We need one another. We share our struggles, offer encouragement, and celebrate small victories. When one of us feels weak, another can offer strength. When one of us loses hope, another can remind us that healing is still possible.
Together, we help keep the wheel of Recovery moving forward.
The beauty of Recovery is that we don’t have to carry life’s weight alone. Through love, faith, forgiveness, and community, we learn to share the load.
As we grow in Recovery, we discover a deeper and more mature love. We begin to honor our different life stories, build meaningful relationships, and welcome the small successes that keep us humble and grounded.
Recovery is not about becoming perfect. It is about becoming more loving, more connected, and more willing to receive the grace that is offered to us.
And perhaps the greatest gift of Recovery is discovering that we belong to one another.
We heal through love, we grow through grace, and we move forward together.
Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
