I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to attend the Recovery Alignment State Tour in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. The Alignment helps communities learn how to respond through Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC), community-based mental health services, and support for people experiencing substance misuse.
The Alignment is a statewide response to public health misinformation and the impact it can have on stigma.
Local Recovery resources were invited to have booths at the event to inform and support people who serve others, as well as those of us with lived experience. At my booth, I shared copies of my books, information about my website, my daily blog, and my weekly support group.
Although I did not sell any books, I made new connections with people in Recovery and with organizations dedicated to serving people with lived experience. For me, those connections are just as meaningful as selling a book.
So, what is a Recovery-Oriented System of Care?
ROSC is a coordinated network of services, organizations, and natural supports built around people in Recovery rather than around one provider or program. It can connect people with treatment, peer support, housing, employment, and other community resources.
ROSC can also help communities respond to misinformation and disinformation. It brings together the voices of people with lived experience, providers, and information from across the system. This helps communities better understand what is happening at the grassroots level instead of relying on one program, funding source, or media perspective.
The event lasted three hours. The agenda included speakers with lived experience, a legislative proclamation, and recognition of people and organizations supporting this important work. Those recognized included State Senator Jesse James and Marshfield Community Health.
Helios – Heuristic Inc. was the hub of the event. Their work focuses on the connection between substance misuse and child welfare. They support parents who have lost their children to Child Protective Services (CPS) and work to address information that can influence who receives care, who becomes involved with the criminal justice system, and how families are treated.
I left the event grateful for the opportunity to connect with others who believe in the power of Recovery, lived experience, and community support. Recovery is not something we do alone. When we bring our voices and experiences together, we can help create communities where people are understood, supported, and given hope.

Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
