September 28, 2026: “Finding a New Self Through Recovery!”

I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you.

Faith is learning to trust what is real and to trust that Recovery can be found within it—even before we change it. This may be one of our greatest stumbling blocks. The work is to keep our hearts from shutting down and our souls open to healing.

When there is no reason to leave our comfort zones, how do we respond? Why should we? Why would we? Many of us do not move until our hearts and souls are ready. When we seek spiritual growth, our old ego and pride may want to become the conductor under a new name. We can fall into a cycle of wash, rinse, and repeat. Sadly, there is no real change. Instead, we may simply be wearing a mask. Our self-improvement remains on our own terms.

Recovery of any kind, including the 12 Steps, can help us when we learn to pay attention to our hearts and souls. That does not mean we will not stumble or fall. We will. And falling is not something we can learn about only by reading. We must experience it.

For a time, we must take the pilot’s seat and experience what it means to be in control. Otherwise, how will we learn to surrender control to the Real Guide? This is a necessary part of the Recovery process.

It seems that in Recovery, we often do not truly find something until we have lost it, ignored it, missed it, longed for it, chosen it, and finally found it again. But this time, it may be wearing a new set of clothes.

I have shared my Recovery story with you. Although my message today may not seem uplifting, I believe it carries a deeply spiritual message. The second phase of Recovery asks us to let go of our egos and embrace faith.

I made this leap of faith twelve years ago. After years of ignoring my pain, I opened my heart and soul to the healing power of Recovery. One of my biggest steps was writing and publishing my first book about my journey of Recovery.

What I now realize is that we do not simply reclaim what we have lost. Instead, we discover a new self through the Recovery process. We learn to live in a relationship with my healing God, our Higher Power, and the love that guides us toward wholeness.

Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
