I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.
Today’s reflection may be difficult for some of us to hear. It is about healing our souls. One thing we see Recovery do again and again is bring healing to men, women, and children. With that in mind, stay with me as we explore an important truth for our growth.
When we hear a story about someone who is blind or unable to hear, we usually do not think of ourselves. Yet, in many ways, we are blind, and we are deaf. It may show up differently in each of us, but it is there.
We all need guidance for our worries and anxieties. We all need forgiveness and mercy for the mistakes and regrets that burden us with guilt and shame. And there are parts of our lives that need to be brought back to life.
The truth is simple:
We all need healing. Des
perately.
When we think about someone who needs the help given to a blind or deaf person, who comes to mind? Most likely, we think of someone else. Rarely do we think of ourselves. Yet our own need for healing is great.
I hope that my Recovery continues to help me live with humility. I hope I do not need constant attention and that my ego remains in check. With faith and humility, I believe I can work the 12 Steps and continue to heal. Recovery desires good things for us, often more than we desire them for ourselves. It is a healer of the soul.
Recovery seeks to heal the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. It is a physician we need.
Healing is closely connected to the virtue of trust. One way we grow in trust is by becoming trustworthy ourselves. Trust shapes how we connect with others. Who we trust, and how we trust, reveals something about our character.
One of the greatest gifts of trust is a peaceful soul.
Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
