I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.
In my new book, Daily Devotional – 12 Steps to Unshakeable Recovery, I focus on steps that support mental wellness. The 12th Step says:
“We are having a spiritual awakening as a result of our Recovery. We are learning to love ourselves and others. We practice these steps in all of our affairs.”
Recovery moves through our soul, heart, and mind. It is not something we do alone. So how do we share Recovery through faith?
Recovery speaks gently to us: “Peace be with you.” It does not give us a list of rules. Before we can share Recovery with others, we must first receive its healing power. Before we carry Recovery to others, we must let the 12 Steps change us from within.
When our lives are changed by Recovery, we begin to carry hope and peace. We become more honest and real. It is not just about what we say—it is about how we live. People watch our lives before they listen to our words. Recovery is not a place we go. It is a way we live each day. It is not about pressure or performance. It is about truth.
Last evening, I attended a mental health awareness event. The speaker shared his story of struggle and healing. At age 18, he experienced a psychotic break. After time in jail due to addiction, he was diagnosed with a serious mental health condition. He has faced stress, anxiety, and depression.
Yet he allowed Recovery to move through his whole life—his soul, heart, and mind. Today, he shares his story with others across the country. He lives what he teaches. His life shows us that Recovery can bring peace, hope, and a new way to live.
He shares with kindness and care. He is learning to love himself, his family, and his friends. He still faces challenges, but he is stronger today. He leans on support from his loved ones, his doctor, his therapist, and his work.
As I left the event, one question stayed with me:
Where is Recovery sending us right now?
Who can we reach out to today?
Who needs hope, support, and care?
Tomorrow, April 11, 2026, I will be at Dragon Tale Books in Menomonie, WI, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for a book signing. If you are in the area, please stop by. I will have both books available.
Even if you do not buy a book, I would love to connect with you.
Twelve Steps of Recovery:
1 We believe that Recovery is possible. With courage
and hope, we commit to overcoming the internal and
external barriers that stand in our way.
2 We believe that a loving God will restore us spiritually,
emotionally, and mentally.
3 We decrease our human desires to hear the
voice of God in our lives.
4 We make a Recovery plan after an honest reflection of
our behavior.
5 We share our Recovery plan with God and other
people who support us.
6 We surrender to God our suffering, anger, resentments,
and other emotions blocking our Recovery.
7 We accept God’s unconditional love and compassion
into our lives.
8 We connect with peers in Recovery and invite their
presence into our lives.
9 We are imperfect human beings. Make amends to a
person when necessary, then release shame, guilt, and
other emotions getting in the way of our growth.
10 We continue to review our recovery plan and revise it
when necessary.
11 We realize Recovery is not just an intention but also
an action. Through prayer, reflection, and mindfulness,
we seek guidance from God and people in our support
network.
12 We are having a spiritual awakening as a result of our
Recovery. We are learning to love ourselves and practicing
these steps in all of our affairs.
