November 21, 2025 “Hearing Recovery in the Ordinary!”

I hope that wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you—right where you are.

The third step in the twelve steps teaches us to quiet our human desires so we can hear the voice of Recovery—our Higher Power. This is why daily devotion time matters. Recently, I felt my heart nudging me toward seeking spiritual direction. These gentle whispers often happen in the simple, everyday moments of my life. I find Recovery speaks to me when I slow down to listen.

Recovery does not only show up in holy or sacred moments. He comes to us in the ordinary places of our lives. It is not only in church, meetings, therapy, or our prayer chair. Sometimes Recovery surprises us with where he shows up—and how he speaks.

We often become aware of Recovery’s plan in the ordinary rhythms of life—at a retirement village, on the way to work, on a trip, in places we pass by every day, watching television, listening to music, or in simple conversation at work.

When we listen for the voice of Recovery, we tame our human and sometimes misguided ways. This helps us stay aware of his presence at all times. We fall short  when we think Recovery only speaks when we are doing “spiritual things.”

Everyday moments are the places where Recovery speaks. We can listen for him in the ordinary, not just the sacred. He is most powerful in our daily lives because he is always with us.
