If you’re like me, you’ve had well-meaning friends say, “Don’t worry about anything.” But it’s hard not to worry, isn’t it? It feels like worrying is built into our human nature. So what can we do about it?
Step Eleven reminds us that Recovery is not just an intention—it’s also an action. Through prayer, reflection, and mindfulness, we seek guidance from God, our Higher Power, and those in our support network. It sounds simple, but living it can be challenging.
We must pause and remember that Recovery watches over us and protects us from worries we often create in our minds. A few weeks ago, my daughter stopped by, filled with anxiety about a problem with her boss. I listened as she shared what had happened. That night, my wife and I said a special prayer for her. The next morning, she texted to say everything had worked out fine.
Isn’t that how it goes for many of us? We pour so much energy into our worries, yet most of them never come true.
When we turn our lives over to Recovery, peace begins to take root—even when our problems remain. The Twelve Steps become our shield and our guide. This is the path to a spiritual life, one that allows us to live freely and at peace.
Wherever we are, Recovery is never far away.
