September 5, 2025 “Walking Beside Each Other in Recovery!”

As we listen, we may wonder if those of us in Recovery recognize the parallels between what is happening today and what has taken place in the past. At earlier Recovery gatherings, we learned “the discipline of hearing the voice of God—our Higher Power.” Those same words echo today, reminding us that God desires a living relationship with us.

Our thoughts turn to the celebration of healing—a step many in Recovery have not yet experienced. How can we walk with them as they begin this journey? What will it feel like at the beginning, when there are no set rituals, no written guides, and no familiar connections?

In time, when they do begin to celebrate Recovery, many will remember the moment they were first invited to join our circle. Together, in celebration, we will feel the deep and abiding presence of God, who is always the true host of our healing.

The twelfth step of Mental Wellness teaches: “As we listen to the voice of our Higher Power, we gain insight and self-awareness. We live out these spiritual principles, walking beside others on the path of healing.”

In our own journey of healing, we are called to ask: Do we sense the Lord’s presence in our Recovery? Do we make space for those just beginning, allowing them to walk beside us with patience and compassion? The truth remains—connection with others has always been essential, whether we are in Recovery or simply navigating the human journey.
