You may have heard of Angels in the Outfield, a story spun for the screen. But there is a truer, older tale—of angels in the farm fields.
Saint Isidore the Farmer, born in 11th-century Spain, labored faithfully for his employer, yet never missed a moment of prayer. Legends tell of angels plowing his fields while he knelt in worship, his work and devotion woven together in a state of holiness.
We now grieve the loss of our dear friend, a lifelong farmer whose hands knew the soil and whose heart knew God. Last week, while tending his livestock, he was taken from us in a tragic accident. Like Saint Isidore, he and his wife lived their faith—attending adoration https://bustedhalo.com/ministry-resources/a-beginners-guide-to-eucharistic-adoration, keeping the Sabbath, serving people.
We believe that angels now guide him into eternal life, completing work left undone on this earth. At the visitation, his wife softly spoke a verse that keeps returning to her heart: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” And so it is.
