Orphaned as a child—her mother dead and her father absent—Caterina Cittadini turned deep personal loss into a calling. At 21, she left the orphanage with a teaching degree and soon opened a Catholic school for girls, using her pain to guide and heal others.
Like Caterina, many of us who endured tragic beginnings create miraculous lives in Recovery. Though the media may stigmatize those with mental health and substance misuse conditions as violent, countless people rise from hardship to become parents, leaders, teachers, healers, and helpers.
With grace and God’s (a higher power’s) love, our wounds can become bridges to others’ healing.
