Approximately 3 months ago, I shared with you a decrease in one of my medications. The art of medication management is to attain a therapeutic amount. I am experiencing drowsiness until midday. This may be a side effect of the medications I am taking. Due to gastrointestinal issues, there is a possibility that this is causing fatigue.
The last two weeks have caught me off guard. My mood has been below normal, meaning on a scale from 1 to 10 (10 being the best), I average between 5 and 6. My symptoms include: anxiety, constant sadness, decreased motivation, my brain slows down, memory recall, shaming self-talk, and tasks take extra effort to complete. Imagine we are out for a walk. The wind is gusting at 25 miles per hour. We are walking directly into the wind, which takes extra effort. It takes a lot of energy to do my daily living activities.
How do I cope? I communicate with my wife about my mental health condition. Often, I say little to her because she can see when I am struggling. I write in my daily journal how I feel using a 1 to 10 rating scale. I share my thoughts and feelings during my support groups. I remind myself that my thoughts and feelings are temporary. Sharing my experience with people authentically, honestly, and lovingly. Set aside time for prayer and meditation with God.
Despite our circumstances, there is hope. This means we can profess hope, even on difficult days. We can seek hope by surrounding ourselves with hopeful people. We can nurture hope by showing compassion, kindness, and love to one another.
