April 16, 2025 “Share Our Knowledge” Part #11

We learned the first of the seven spiritual works of mercy, “To Counsel the Doubtful.” The second spiritual work of mercy is “Share Our Knowledge.”

We may say to ourselves, “Under what authority am I equipped to share my wisdom about recovery and healing?” What do we have to offer other recoverees about Recovery? This may pop into our heads when we are ready to share our experiences of healing. Our Recovery experience teaches us to gather information and learn to use it during our daily routine. Our self-awareness and willingness to practice the principles of Recovery offer hope to people.

Pam Sininek, in her talk about a Pilgrimage of Hope, says, “Sometimes all we need to do is sit with a person. All we need to do is share our story, and that can be enough. Maybe all we need to do is say, ‘I love you,’ hope does not disappoint.”

Hope will never disappoint us. People in Recovery may have questions, so they might approach us to ask one. This allows us to learn more about our Recovery. We may be asked, “Is the journey of Recovery worth my time and effort?” Sometimes we are unable to answer immediately. When this happens, we may need to gather more information. Once we have the answer to the question, we can share it with the recoveree.

I have the pleasure of presenting my book https://superhumanbeing.net/ to people. I have been invited to share my story in coffee shops, book stores, library, university, and a fundraiser for mental health. People want me to share my knowledge about Recovery. Most times, I can answer what they want to know about healing. Sometimes I am unable to. When this happens, I go back home to find the answer. If I have contact information for the recoveree or another person, I will share what I learned, or I will store the knowledge in my brain for the next time I am asked the question.

Pam says, “We have to learn something before we teach ourselves. Adults enjoyed faith (hope) formation because they were learning as much as they were teaching (people).” We are encouraged to learn about Recovery, healing, and hope. We want to speak and act about what we learn. We recognize that Recovery is a unique journey for all of us.

Action Step:

What is one Recovery concept or activity you want to learn about? Share your discovery with another person or a recoveree. I welcome you to share with me your answer to this question.
