In 2015 I had a major dip in my mental health condition. One piece of my healing involved attending a Depressed Anonymous Support Group on Tuesday evenings from 6-7:00 p.m.. I cannot recall who brought this group to my attention to help me feel better and I could share the unique details of my story which became a book in 2023. https://superhumanbeing.net/
I sometimes find myself reflecting on what it means to receive the healing love of peers, friends, and family. God (Higher Power) has touched my heart, as has the love and faith of those who attend our support groups. I am made to believe and feel how important my life is throughout the Recovery community. Attendance at support groups is a healing instrument, particularly integrating the 12 steps into my activities of daily living. I’ve learned and seen things today that were impossible to view in 2015.
Support Groups
The first effect of my healing was connecting with people and developing mutual relationships. These relationships restored a sense of love and community in my life. The second effect of my healing was a portion of my heart was restored, allowing me to see clearly and distinctly the road toward a shining bright light of hope. This opened my eyes to the gift of faith in God and the origin and meaning of my purpose in life.
I was angry with God for my mental health and trauma conditions. However, I returned to him in friendship to be transformed. Progressing toward the light of hope I saw the world around me not just with my eyes that were healed but now with the eyes of Recovery. The support groups continue to have a healing presence for me. I have a community of friends who encourage me to be honest, and vulnerable and want to learn from me.
Relationships with peers, family, friends, and in particular Recovery are instituted for us as a means of healing love spreading in a group setting, family, and community. Friends, may we run into the healing words of Recovery and the 12 steps so we can reach the light of hope. Wherever we may be in our lives Recovery and healing are only a phone call away or a quick Google search to connect with people in our community.
