A few blogs ago I spoke about my reduction in medication. I want to thank you for emailing me saying you will keep me in your prayers. I have not noticed a decline in my mood during the past week. I still experience drowsiness and extreme constipation, which happen to be side effects of the medication I am taking. I will continue to provide an occasional update on my progress.
When you read my blogs, I communicate with those who encounter my messages in various ways. Recovery is not an abstract idea or philosophical concept. Recovery is real and this reality is made real in our lives. Perhaps this is why I turn to parables and stories providing us hope that healing is possible.
By writing in parables and stories, I can bring Recovery into our everyday lives. I use images and metaphors from everyday life to convey the reality and presence of Recovery’s love in our hearts and minds. Recovery is dynamic, and a personal reality in our lives.
Our lawn service comes in spring and scatters the seed into the earth, once it is sown the service comes back four times between spring and fall for further lawn treatment. My wife diligently keeps the ground moist to create a beautiful yard. The lawn service and my wife do not make the seed grow; the land facilitates growth in due time.
In the same way, we sow the seeds of Recovery and healing. But it is God (Higher Power) who opens our hearts and minds and transforms our lives with his unconditional love. We share healing through the message of Recovery on which good seed is sown in the ground. It’s the Holy Spirit who touches our lives so that we can open the door of Recovery and enter into it.
Recovery is like a mustard seed, if we hold a mustard seed in our hand we know it is a tiny seed one can barely see. Yet, this tiny seed grows into a large plant with large branches. In the same way, our acts of Recovery and healing might seem small and unimportant in the chaos of everyday activities. But we, no matter how small or big sow a seed of Recovery that can grow into a strong inner life, then be a witness to healing. In this way, we begin to do our part in contributing to our healing in the here and now.
