The Catholic Church my wife and I are members of holds a blue Christmas Mass on December 23, 2024. What is a blue Mass? During the weeks leading up to Christmas, we wait for Jesus to be born. These weeks are full of anticipation and readying ourselves for the big miracle of Jesus’s birth.
The Christmas cards and greetings from family and friends are full of hope, joy, happiness, peace, and excitement. Unfortunately for some of us, we may not experience these sentiments, this is where the blue Mass comes in.
Some find this a difficult time of year for a host of reasons. It may be the first Christmas without a spouse, relative, or friend. Christmas may bring about sadness and depression due to a difficult childhood as a result of poverty or substance misuse. There may be other blue experiences we can include in this list.
Our parish Priest Father Tom Krieg will host a mass at 3:00 p.m. today. Loss, sadness, or depression based on our experiences are normal feelings and the grief they bring can provide healing. During this season take time to be kind to ourselves, have self-compassion, and refrain from judging ourselves (“I don’t need to be like this”).
Lastly, know we are loved and pursue making some connections with people who will refrain from judging us and are willing listeners. Connections may include going to Church Services, prayer, meditation-mindfulness, having coffee with a friend, telephoning a friend or relative we have not spoken to for a while, or attending our Peer Support Group Meetings on December 26, 2024, and January 2, 2024. https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/
