Today’s focus will be on Steps 8 and 9 (see below). We know how to interpret the appearance of the sky; it’s blue or full of puffy clouds or it is gray. We sometimes do not know how to interpret the present moment in our lives. But we may also refer to our present time and the time of our Recovery. The fullness of time is when we empty our shortcomings.
We acknowledge our behaviors have impacted others, we seek mutual reconciliation for harmful actions we committed, and seek forgiveness from those we have harmed or are impacted by our behavior. If we interrupt the present time with our shortcomings we can make a frequent examination of our conscious so we can settle the matter on the way instead of waiting until a later date or our death.
We ask for forgiveness with all humility, gentleness, patience, and bearing with one another through love. Then after accepting the attitude of humility we can approach Recovery as a sign of our time and ask forgiveness. The most practical way is approaching frequently Steps 8 and 9. Therefore, Recovery is an invitation from our Higher Power (God) to examine our conscience daily. This is not an exercise to shame ourselves but an invitation to experience faith, hope, and love.
When our hearts are clean we receive the blessings from the hand of Recovery and the reward is internal happiness.
Recovery Steps 8 and 9:
8. We acknowledge our behaviors have impacted our relationships. We list those affected by our behavior and whenever possible become willing to reconcile or thank them for their support during a relapse or mental health crisis.
9. We seek mutual reconciliation for a harmful action we committed and seek forgiveness from those we harmed or were impacted by our behavior. Then, let go of our shame because it no longer serves a purpose in our lives, we understand we were designed because we are loved and to be in relationships with other people.
