I remember four years ago when a voice inside of me encouraged me to be part of something great and wonderful (I was not hallucinating). I was being singled out to do an important mission. How did this sit with me? What thoughts ran through my mind? Am I qualified? What are the expectations? How do I prepare? What do I bring? Why me? What will it take to be mission-qualified? What exactly is the mission?
Mission qualified means to listen and have courage. I listened to those around me tapping me on the shoulder, planting seeds, and thinking about what I could offer peers, like me, to be healthier and become the best version or ourselves. My father encouraged me to write a book about our family’s journey through mental health and trauma. https://superhumanbeing.net/
Because I wanted to be happy on this earth I realized the importance of connecting with peers undergoing a similar transformation. This inspired me to sponsor a support group, https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/, and a daily blog, https://superhumanbeing.net/blog/ I want to model to others what it takes to heal and provide unconditional love as an imperfect human being.
It takes courage to stand up for what we believe and to speak up for those without a voice so that stigma is eliminated from society’s vocabulary. I want those who are in pain, oppressed, and discriminated against to find a home with SuperHuman Being.
This begs the question, “Why be afraid’? I believe we are worthy for we are equipped to do what we need to do to make connections with peers. Despite failings and shortcomings, our Higher Power (for me God) allows us to bask in his glory. He allows us to know him to love him and to be in a relationship with him. Being in a loving relationship with God has allowed me to discern my mission in life. I know I am worthy, I know I am qualified, and I know I am enough.
I hope my words each day inspire you to heal and recover. Those who support people with a mental health condition, addiction, or trauma I hope you pick up tips about how to build a relationship with a person in recovery. Finally, thank you for sharing this space with me because your feedback and voice nurture my daily recovery.
