We are called to love every human being. Everyone is worth loving even if they do not realize it. Are we worthy to hold onto this truth? Not seek retaliation or revenge. There are two steps to take before learning to love others. First is loving the divine, and loving ourselves.
Divine justice is not human justice. Only our Higher Power (for me God) can give this to us since it is given to us in mercy. There was a married couple of 53 years. For the first 40 years, they deeply loved each other. However, they struggled to love a Higher Power. They asked themselves, “How do we love our Higher Power first over each other and the children?” This was difficult to grasp so the couple said, “We surrender to our Higher Power and need help to learn how to do this.
Over time the husband and wife grew deeper, became kinder, gentler, loving, compassionate, and more selfless. The husband stated, “I began to love my wife beyond human understanding. I loved her as my Higher Power calls me to love her.” He wanted to be shown by the Higher Power how to love.
We can be open to the examples our Higher Power teaches us. Our Higher Power did not want us to love for his sake but for our own sake. By loving our Higher Power first, we have no enemies. The people we do not associate with are not our enemies. The capacity to love others is a grace from our Higher Power freely given to us. When we have this love we start loving everybody this is the beauty of relationships.
By loving our Higher Power first, we can love others so much better, including ourselves. Love is a radical action when we do it this way.
We can ask ourselves, “Higher Power how do we apply these thoughts and take action today”?
