June 5, 2024 Connection Equals Love!

Throughout my Recovery, people have given me instructions to guide me toward healing. Several years ago a psychologist asked if anyone told me I suffer from trauma. My psychologist began to describe the symptoms occurring from trauma. I determined I could check most of the boxes.

He said, “You may benefit from eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. It is a mental health treatment that uses eye movements to help people heal from trauma or other distressing experiences. The goal of EMDR is to ‘reprogram’ memories by recalling a stressful event and replacing it with a positive belief.  https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/emdr-what-is-it

EMDR saved my life in a way other therapies did not. When we have a positive experience in therapy, we learn more about our healing and want to share it with people. Deepening our relationship with Recovery is ongoing. How do we accurately share our healing and Recovery with other people? For me, it means connecting with professionals and non-professionals who have a passion and purpose surrounding mental health, addiction, and trauma.

Another way we can share our experiences is by reading especially from people who have stepped forward to articulate their circumstances and the process they are taking to continue ongoing Recovery. Using the resources available and sharing with people deepens our healing even those who already have a deep relationship with Recovery.

Which of the Recovery principles and practices impact you the most?

Celebrate our progress throughout the Recovery community and beyond. Know I love you despite never meeting some of you. My Recovery deepens because I get to share a blog with you each day of the week. This makes us kindred spirits.

Peace

Larry
