Today I met with my therapist for our monthly session. When I began treatment several years ago I developed a treatment plan to help address my mental health condition and trauma. With 2023 coming to an end I wanted to review and update my treatment plan with my therapist. After considerable thought and dialogue, I arrived at the following goals for my Recovery in 2024:
1. Continue to manage my symptoms, journaling (tracking symptoms, scaling of symptoms, reflection, blog), and attending support groups.
2. Continue to grow my relationship with GOD, and incorporate him into my recovery.
3. Achieve balance in the following areas in my life: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
4. Continue engaging in pleasurable activities that support mood and emotional regulation.
5. Continue the practice of DBT skills, CBT, ACT, and Mindfulness.
6. Continue increasing self-compassion and self-kindness.
7. Continue ongoing individual therapy as maintenance, and continue activities that enhance my quality of life
The 5th step of Peer Recovery is to “Communicate my Plan with my Higher Power, myself, and with another human being, and the 10th step is to Continually review my Plan of Recovery with my Higher Power, support team, and those I trust”.
I recognize I am implementing steps 5 and 10 in my daily routine. I am not one to boast about my progress. However, communicating with you about the steps I want to take in 2024 brings accountability to my Recovery. Writing my blog each day I hope you are finding them truthful, full of compassion and kindness whether you have a mental health condition, addiction, trauma, or you support a person with these conditions. Some of you have sent emails sharing how a particular post has touched your heart. Thank you for being vulnerable. Thank you for your support as I learned to find purpose and meaning with my family and become an author.
Reminder: There will be no post on Monday, January 1, 2024. I will be back for the first blog post of the New Year on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
Peace
Larry
