August 21, 2026 “The Two Halves of Recovery!”

I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.

Recovery, when we look at it honestly, brings us into union with our spirituality. This can be hard to believe or understand when we have little sense of purpose, little courage, weak boundaries, and very little inner spiritual experience.

The first half of our Recovery journey often focuses on externals. We may focus on facts, surface emotions, warning signs, the right rituals, Recovery quotes, or even special clothing. These things can become substitutes for true spirituality. We may focus more on style and feelings than on the deeper work of healing. We do not want to give our lives to something that is only about appearance or material things. Sometimes, obedience begins before certainty arrives.

An authentic Recovery experience can feel like “too much!” It challenges us and calls us deeper. It nurtures our True Self, but only after it begins to weaken the false self we have built to survive. We need to be honest about this. We do not want to settle for fast-food Recovery when we are hungry for real healing.

We may find ourselves facing grassroots issues such as mental health, substance misuse, trauma, relationship struggles, prayer, meditation, and meaningful Recovery reading. These are important parts of healing, but they can sometimes feel boring or limited by the usual Recovery agenda. We may be good people who are trying hard to heal. Yet no one has told us about the second half of Recovery.

I have stumbled into this second half of Recovery, and I now realize that the first half is not all there is. I expect more from my Recovery. I am maturing because I want to be challenged by my spiritual faith and by the practices that lead to healing.

I am learning to connect with my inner self—the deepest part of my heart and soul. I continue to grow in knowledge, understand how my choices affect my mental health, and practice the skills I am learning. Recovery is becoming more than something I do. It is becoming a way of life.

We can begin to clear up the confusion between the two halves of Recovery when we understand their differences, their needs, and the challenges each one brings. Both halves matter. The first helps us find stability. The second invites us into deeper transformation.

How do you identify and bring together the two halves of your own Recovery?

Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
