June 26, 2026 “A Plan for Recovery!”

I hope wherever you are, you know Recovery is with you right where you are.

An organization without a strategic plan is likely to underperform or even fail. The same is true of our Recovery. Without a plan, our progress can slow, and we may lose our direction.

A couple of times each year, it can be helpful to ask ourselves one simple question:

“What is the one thing that would strengthen our Recovery?”

Developing a plan of care with my therapist created a major shift in my Recovery. Over the years, other simple habits have also made a big difference.

My first goal is to manage my symptoms by practicing the skills I learn in programs, journaling, meditating, and attending support groups.

My second goal is to enjoy life by doing activities I love and spending time with people who encourage me.

My third goal is to show myself compassion when I fall short. I want to practice good self-care and speak to myself with kindness.

My fourth goal is to stay connected to trusted people who support me while caring for both my physical and mental health.

During the quiet moments of my day, I began to discover the wisdom of Recovery. The language of the Twelve Steps reaches deep into my heart and lights a fire in my soul. By God’s grace, I truly listen to the words of Recovery. Little by little, the pieces of the puzzle begin to fit together.

Then we begin to see the beautiful vision Recovery has for our lives, our families, and our communities.

As we think about what is possible in our daily Recovery, I invite us to take on three simple challenges.

First, attend a support group each week.

Second, choose two days each year to go on a retreat. Step away from the busyness of life and give your heart time to rest, reflect, and renew.

Third, spend time with God each day. Seek His presence, listen for His voice, and ask Him to guide your Recovery one day at a time.

So let us return to the question:

“What is the one thing that would strengthen our Recovery?”

For many of us, the answer is a daily encounter with Recovery. That may mean attending a support group, spending time in prayer and reflection, eating healthy foods, staying free from substances, journaling, or practicing another healthy Recovery habit.

Small, faithful steps, taken one day at a time, lead to a life of healing, hope, and freedom.

Remember, Recovery is happening right now, in this moment.
