There is a highway near our home. When we proceed up the off-ramp, we come to a stoplight. While we wait for the light to turn green, we feel the bridge shake. This is due to vehicles crossing the bridge intersection. Have you ever attended a sporting event where fans were on their feet cheering and stomping in excitement and the building shook? The shaking of the ramp and stadium may increase our adrenaline level.
The ramp helps people reach their destination. The stadium noise helps the players do great things on the field or court. I have not been to a support group meeting, therapy session, or another Recovery activity where the room shook. I have attended Recovery activities when our inner world has shaken. We were filled spiritually, making connections with one another.
In the bible, there are examples when Jesus requested his followers to remain awake in prayer with him. However, they fell asleep. Did it all become a little stale? Did their inner world no longer shake when Jesus spoke? Does this happen in Recovery for us?
Recovery invites us to come alive; maybe that’s the challenge for today. We can pray or meditate for the interior renewal of our hearts. We can shake up our inner life, allowing us to reshape the places we live, places of worship, schools, work, and the Recovery community.
By our love and hope (which was written about in past blogs), by living our Recovery and the challenge in the 12-steps today, we can heal from mental health, substance misuse, and trauma conditions. Let’s rock our world!
