May 30, 2025 Stigma Is Real!

The stigma of having mental health, substance misuse, and trauma conditions is not a thing of the past. The meaning of stigma is “A negative label or belief attached to something, like a trait, condition, or group, leading to disapproval and discrimination.” (Oxford Dictionary) Today, we continue to see, hear, and experience the stigma of our conditions.

Those of us who experience stigma form a powerful chain of witnesses that traces back to the early formation of America. This does not stop us from proclaiming our faith in Recovery and the power to live a normal lifestyle. History shows our witness of Recovery becomes stronger in times of mistreatment.

When we make connections with one another, our faith and witness become clearer, and we grow stronger. Many of our brothers and sisters around the world are suffering on this very day. We may be suffering today due to the stigma associated with mental health, substance misuse, and trauma conditions.

How are you or someone you know suffering from stigma due to these conditions?

What coping methods do you use?

I pray for all of us who experience stigma in our lives. We are united as brothers and sisters in healing. I pray we are strengthened in our own body of Recovery here on this earth.
