May 19, 2025 “Who Helps People Recover?”

I find the story of Mary in the Bible inspiring. An angel tells her, “You have found favor with God, and because you have found favor with God, you will give birth to a child who will be a king.” God speaks to Mary and says her life is about to change.

Did we have a similar experience when we were called to Recovery? Who spoke to us? When did they talk to us about Recovery?

God put several people in my life who encouraged Recovery. They identified ways for me to heal. Suggestions included therapy, psychiatry, support groups, reading, attending seminars, and others. I began to understand, to a degree, what could happen if I followed their guidance.

One person in particular explained that Recovery will give me birth to a new life. The most extraordinary things will happen. Amid unknowing, amid what might occur, I needed to let go and follow the person’s prompt.

What lesson have I learned? God (higher power) is a living presence in our lives. He uses people to speak to us. We may not know what will happen. Surrendering to the advice of others makes healing possible.
