May 2, 2025 Hope Is Contagious! Part #20

Recovery wants us to be happy. When we have a desert moment, meaning we are bitter and in despair, we can ask God (higher power) for the grace to know hope. Hope is a powerful word. Sometimes, when we are experiencing mental health and substance misuse conditions, episodes can last for a long time. We don’t want to give up hope.

Pam Sininek, in her talk about a Pilgrimage of Hope, says, “The best thing we can do when we are in despair is profess our hope. It is one of the best things we can do when we say it over and over, it becomes more real to us.”

Hope is often mentioned when I facilitate a Virtual Support Group on Thursday evenings from 6 to 7:00 p.m. (https://superhumanbeing.net/thursday-zoom-event/). I notice how this becomes contagious to other people in the group. Expressing is not enough. Partnered with action makes hope real. When we have hope within us, it becomes visible to other people.

Suggested Action Step:

When people meet you, what do they see (hope, joy, and love)?
