April 22, 2025 Giving Correction Part #12

We learned two of the seven spiritual works of mercy, “To Counsel the Doubtful” and “Share Our Knowledge.” The third spiritual work of mercy is “Give correction to those that need it.” Pam Sininek, in her talk about a Pilgrimage of Hope, said, “This one feels like a Yikes to me.”

We must remove the rocks in our eyes before picking out the pebbles in other people’s eyes. Pam says, “It is not an act of mercy if we walk around and point fingers at people.”

But there may be a time in our Recovery when we need to have a conversation with another person about their behavior. Usually, this is a person we love. We share our concerns with them because we want to preserve their well-being.

Love is mercy’s second name. Pam says, “I am sure at some point in our lives we needed to sit down with somebody to help them and steer them back in the right direction.”

Action Step: What corrections do you need to make in your life that will help steer a person back in the right direction?
