March 12, 2025 Deeper Healing!

When I began my journey of healing from the shadow of suffering I connected with people searching for Recovery. Many of these people continue to be a cornerstone of the foundation of my healing. My teachers are giving me information and advice on how to manage a mental health condition. I have moments of confusion when I believe I have done all I can to earn my place in Recovery.

I tell my peers I have given up so much and am doing everything I should do. When self-pity surfaces an inner voice says to me, “Yes, you have followed me and done most of what I have asked. However, you must understand this is an important part of taking baby steps to heal.”

Recovery teaches us we can’t do all we are doing for our well-being and our self-revelation. We are not about saving ourselves that is what Jesus (Higher Power) will do. Examples of following the path of Recovery are connecting with people, releasing those things making us victims, accepting Jesus’ (Higher Power) unconditional love, compassion, and presence in our lives, and shedding anger due to past harms inflicted on us.

Our Recovery journey is not how much we do or saving ourselves, but how our work contributes to our healing. Recovery is about shedding those things that prevent us from being closer to whom we are called to be. It is about shedding anger, revenge, unforgiveness, and much more than giving up chocolate. The purpose of Recovery is to be closer to Jesus (Higher Power). As we heal and go deeper into Recovery, more than when we entered healing, if we are not better than when we entered Recovery then all we did is go through the motions.

Healing is much deeper than that it is about an actual transformation of our actions so that all will be well. Recovery is a consistent transformation to manage our mental health and substance misuse conditions. Recovery is a time when we as a Recovering community (People who support people are included) come together to do communal, individual, and self-sacrificing activities. This is the purpose of healing. It is a swell of joy, love, and sacrifice so that we can become the best version of ourselves. It is not about chocolate! It is about loving ourselves and others and shedding things no longer necessary in our lives to bring us closer to Jesus (Higher) and be transformed.
