October 24, 2024 The Power of Healing!

I’m a facilitator of a Peer Support Group for those of us with either a mental health condition, addiction, or trauma. We explore the deep elements of our Recovery. We look at our identities, the working of the heart in our daily activities, and how we live out our healing in our souls.

One important element is understanding the power of healing. Normally an enlightened discussion around healing occurs over creating a definition of what healing is. Ultimately, we use repeatability in the group awareness, acceptance, processing, release, growth, integration, and transformation.

Such healing is a radical commitment for us. It is easy to support those healing, not so with ourselves. We tend to allow self-talk to increase our guilt, shame, anxiety, sadness, and other feelings that do not support our Recovery.

I have witnessed my brothers and sisters in healing treat themselves with compassion, kindness, love, and acceptance. Our healing is so important to us we are willing to change our eating habits, exercise regime, and friends we associate with because it helps us grow our Recovery. Even amid mistreatment and misunderstandings healing commands growth and wanting what is best for ourselves even at the cost of not always pleasing people.

“No” it’s hard wanting the best for ourselves. We can be annoying, prideful, and irritable. It may seem impossible to heal ourselves due to being abused, betrayed, and ignored. By ourselves, healing is impossible but by connecting with people (support groups) we can invite them into our hearts. Guilt, shame, anxiety, and sadness can be replaced. These feelings give way to awareness, acceptance, processing, release, growth, integration, and transformation. We want to heal even at the cost of letting go of unhealthy relationships.
