We are called in Recovery to become a grain of wheat, planted in rich soil to bear good fruit. The 12 steps are the wheat for our mind, the soil is our heart, and the fruit is our soul. When we enter into Recovery, “We die to self” to find who we are truly meant to be.
We enter this unknown with faith, fortitude, and quiet dignity. These traits are essential for my Recovery because I find it challenging to give myself over to the steps. Experts tell me that losing myself will allow me to become the fruit that Recovery wants for me. I have heard the voice inside my head say, “Hell no we will not go.” I also have heard, “Be kind and gentle to yourself and become the person you are meant to be.”
What do I have to lose to integrate the steps into my life? Pride, ego, jealousy, and selfishness to name a few. These characteristics can be replaced with generosity, kindness, love, no opinions, and non-judgemental.
It is about being better every day. We are called to love our neighbor and ourselves. When we do this everything else in life will come naturally. Everything else in Recovery will become deeply rooted in our souls when we do this.
What is your image of Recovery?
What are we going to do today to support our Recovery?
Peace
