November 3, 2023 Cast Away

We were created to be in a relationship with people and a divine being (for me this is God). Through recovery, we can develop and deepen relationships. Whatever our circumstances we were designed to share our talents with other people and strive for inclusion in our families, faith-based entities, school, work, social activities, and other community groups.

Tom Hanks starred in the 2000 hit movie titled, “Cast Away”. Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks)
was en route as a FedEx executive to Malaysia when his plane suddenly crashed into the Pacific Ocean during a storm. Chuck survives the crash and is left alone on an island for years. He made initial attempts to get off the island, which all failed. He learns how to survive accompanied by only his handmade volleyball friend he named “Wilson.” Without Chuck having a relationship with his imaginary friend he could not have survived the ordeal.

I am an introvert by nature. When I am around people I become tired after a period of time. Despite this, I have found healing when I interact with other people. I notice if I spend too much time alone my sadness, anxiety, and unhealthy thoughts want to take over. God serves as a spiritual leader in my life, especially during troubling times. When I am connected with people and God “the sky seems bluer, the water tastes fresher, and every sight, sound, touch, and taste is richer and fuller (adapted Matthew Kelly)”.

Take time this weekend to nurture your mind, body, and soul. Have some fun!!!

Peace

Larry
