October 31, 2023 Thoughts, Purpose & Blessings

I am reading a book written by a friend titled, “Burn Bright Not Out”. Sybil Hall is a teacher who wrote the book for teachers. However, I believe her words apply to all of us.

During certain stages of my Recovery, I find it difficult to manufacture positive thoughts and find purpose in life. Sybil reminds me to have an intentional mindset and remain in the present moment to help overcome these challenges.

I am at my doctor’s office for treatment as I write this. I am being treated for Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Looking out the window of a room I am in an American flag is flapping in the wind. A crisp snowfall covers about 2 inches of the ground. It is Halloween and a group of children are walking outside with their costumes on and ready for trick or treating. Observing all of this brings a pleasant smile to my face and a calmness to my mind and body.

My purpose in life is to grow into a deeper relationship with Christ. Sybil encourages me to once again be intentional and remain in the present moment. When I am in alignment with Christ it enhances the other parts of my life. This includes; being a husband, being a father, being an author, supporting people in Recovery, and my relations with friends.

I recognize the abundant blessings I have in my life. Some seem small or trivial such as doing a puzzle with my wife. Others are significant like authoring a book.

How do you manufacture positive thoughts in your life?

Where do you find purpose and meaning in your life?

What are your blessings today?

Peace

Larry
