October 10, 2023 Burn Bright, Not Out

A friend recently published her first book. The title and author is “Burn Bright, Not Out” by Sybil Hall, and is available on Amazon.

The book is written for teachers, Sybil was a teacher for over two decades. She has now established herself as a full-time author, consultant, mentor, coach, and online business owner. I began reading her work quickly realizing the practical lessons she shares also apply to those of us in Recovery.

In the introduction of her book, she challenges me to, “Reflect on the areas of your life where you feel most overwhelmed. How can you start prioritizing self-care in those areas of your life tomorrow?”

One area in my life where I feel overwhelmed is my stomach challenges. I suffer daily with gas, bloating, and constipation. This is a crappy thing to disclose. However, it greatly impacts my activities of daily living, my health, and my well-being.

I receive treatment for my stomach challenges (Did you know that 80% of serotonin, the feel-good hormone is manufactured in our stomach). In fact, I am at my doctor’s office right now receiving treatment.

Self-care for my stomach includes; supplements, clean eating, (gluten-free, no dairy, little sugar, vegetables, fruits, chicken, etc.) following a daily routine, and treatment from my functional doctor (She addresses the root cause of my stomach issues).

I have learned two lessons from Sybil. The importance of self-care to cultivate our health and well-being, and I can find sage advice from reading books and articles not necessarily about recovery.

How would you answer the question in the third paragraph? If you’re willing to share with me your response to this question send me an email.

Peace

Larry
