The 12th step of Recovery says, “We gain insight into our Recovery through our Higher Power as we model these steps, and share our journey toward hope, healing, and health with people.” Recovery chooses insignificant people to carry the word of healing and peace to others contemplating a desire to change the trajectory of their lives.
Each year some of us experience a family member or friend attempting to pull an April Fool’s joke on us. But being “fools for Recovery” is no laughing matter. When we share the message of Recovery, it is a stumbling block to some and foolishness to others. Some people deride the hope Recovery brings. The Recovery message is the source and summit of our wisdom and the source of our spiritual strength.
The message of Recovery is to be shared with others in need just as the 12-step program tells us to do. We may not be an actor, sports stars, famous politicians, or other famous person, however, Recovery chooses us to share our journey toward wholeness.
We may seem insignificant from secular society’s perspective. But Recovery chooses regular people like us to share the message of Recovery. What do we receive in return? We get to be a fool for Recovery, not just in April, but throughout the year and it feeds our soul the sustenance it requires to sustain the miracle of Recovery.
All-wise Recovery, grant us the faith and courage to be a wise fool for a reawakening.
